Beach in Maui During a Sunny Day

Exploring the enchanting islands of Hawaii is a dream for many travelers, and choosing the right accommodation can make all the difference. Bed and breakfasts offer a unique, intimate experience with personalized service and a local touch that can’t be found in larger hotels.

They are a fun way to experience the islands, providing comfort, exceptional service, and a deep connection to the local culture and environment. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a cultural immersion, or a serene retreat, these B&Bs promise an unforgettable stay.

Here are 11 of my favorites, each offering something special that makes them worth a visit.

Ho’oilo House, Maui

This luxurious B&B in West Maui offers a tranquil escape with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The architecture is inspired by traditional Hawaiian design, featuring teak furnishings and thatched roofs. It’s an ideal spot for honeymooners or anyone seeking a peaceful retreat.

Holualoa Inn, Big Island

Set on a coffee estate in the heart of Kona Coffee Country, Holualoa Inn offers a unique farm-to-table experience. The inn’s décor includes local artwork and handcrafted furniture, and guests can participate in daily activities like coffee roasting and fruit harvesting. This is a great option if you are interested in getting a real feel of the local culture.

Hanalei Colony Resort, Kauai

Kauai's Hanalei Colony Resort offers beach front rentals in a two-story building with a triangular roof. The structure is beige with a dark brown roof. In the lower foreground, a sign displays the hotel's name, "Hanalei Colony Resort - Beach Front Rentals."

Though not a traditional B&B, this resort offers secluded condo-style units with kitchens but with the added benefit of a breakfast service. Located on the remote north shore of Kauai, it provides a peaceful setting with dramatic ocean and mountain views.

Poipu Plantation Resort, Kauai

The image captures the Poipu Plantation Resort on the picturesque island of Kauai, as seen from the tranquil waters that lap against its shores. The resort's charming buildings are white with brown roofs, reminiscent of traditional plantation architecture, stand amidst lush tropical foliage.

Located on the sunny south shore of Kauai, this B&B is set in a restored plantation house. Guests can enjoy gourmet breakfasts that feature island specialties, and the location is just a short walk from Poipu Beach, one of my favorites in Kauai.

The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono, Maui

This one is for history buffs. It’s a charming inn that offers a taste of Old Hawaii with its 1920s architecture and tropical gardens. Each room is uniquely decorated with vintage Hawaiian quilts and local art, and the breakfasts incorporate fresh, local ingredients.

Volcano Rainforest Retreat, Big Island

Near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this retreat offers guests a chance to stay in custom-built cottages nestled among a lush fern forest. It’s a perfect spot for nature lovers and those exploring the park’s dynamic landscapes. It’s a bit more remote than the others but an excellent option for exploring the park if you want something a little less rustic than camping.

Hale Maluhia Country Inn (House of Peace), Big Island

This charming B&B in Kailua-Kona is known for its “Garden of Eden” setting, complete with waterfalls, koi ponds, and a lush garden. The breakfast is a highlight, featuring local fruits and Kona coffee. Another great option for couples or if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle.
